Teheran: First International Congress on Education and Health
The University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences in Tehran organized a congress from 19 to 21 June 2018 with many contributions from Iranian scientists and representatives of Iranian government ministries, as well as some representatives of non-traditional educational fields, in particular Waldorf and Reggio Emilia.
Nana Göbel, Executive Board Member of the Friends of Waldorf Education, also spoke at the congress. What all participants had in common was an insight into the decisive and formative first years of child development. Some of the Iranian contributors were extremely critical of the early childhood education in their country, which is either cognitively oriented or non-existent, and were looking for long-term cooperation partners. The interest of the non-academic audience, i.e., the many teachers, in other pedagogical movements was enormous, even though their participation in the congress had been mandatory. Thanks to the courageous organizers, doors were opened for an exchange, which can now be followed by the next steps.
