Stuttgart: great interest in Masters course in Eurythmy Education

March 2013

The first Masters course in Eurythmy Education has started with 18 students at the Freie Hochschule Stuttgart and the Eurythmeum Stuttgart. Alongside graduates of the basic course in eurythmy, experienced eurythmy teachers are also using the opportunity of this course to enhance their educational skills.

With this qualified training for future eurythmy teachers and the possibility of obtaining an internationally recognised higher education degree, important steps have been taken to strengthen eurythmy at Waldorf schools in the long term.

The extent of the demand for a thorough educational deepening of eurythmy is shown by the number of applications: 18 students have signed up for the initial Stuttgart Masters course in Eurythmy Education. As the course directors Tania Mierau and Matthias Jeuken report, they include both young eurythmy graduates who already have a basic educational qualification through their basic eurythmy training and who want to build on that for their work in Waldorf schools, and eurythmy teachers who already have practical experience and want to deepen that with a further qualification.

As the participation of foreign students shows, an academic qualification for teaching eurythmy is growing in importance not just in Germany. Particularly in countries where Waldorf education is not yet as well known and recognised as in Germany, an academic degree is often a requirement for working in schools; it also strengthens and supports the Waldorf movement internationally.

“The Masters course in Eurythmy Education is also open to graduates from other types of recognised eurythmy training but they will be subject to the College’s entrance and examination procedures,” Matthias Jeuken affirms. “The next course starts in September 2013. It is possible to register at any time.”

With the Stuttgart Masters course in Eurythmy Education and the qualified training it provides for future eurythmy teachers, an important step has been taken to strengthen eurythmy at Waldorf schools in the long term.
